I was an avid bicyclist, used to spend hours with my wife traveling the bike trails around our Midwest suburban home, it was a great way to unwind and enjoy a bit of nature during the spring, fall, and summer. When I was involved in an automobile accident a year ago – my cycling days came to an abrupt end, I was left paralyzed from the waist down and it’s taken me months, but I’ve been working to rebuild my muscle strength enough to workout. I missed cycling, but my wife had an idea – she bought me the Dragonfly Handcycle.

I was a bit skeptical at first, the handcycle looked a bit awkward, but I have to admit, it didn’t take too much persuading to get me on board. The handcycle is easy to attach and works out well, it’s even easy to fix and maintain, it’s a twist on the classic bicycle, and uses common bike parts to build, which makes it easy to fix on your own, if need be. Not that I’ve needed to do any real fixing, it’s just a relief to know that I could if the occasion arises.

I never thought I’d be back on the trail, but there are more than a few trails near me that are wide enough to go out handcycling on. Being blessed with lots of bike trails and not wanting to miss out on the changing of the seasons, I’m back on the trails, getting fresh air and exercise, and I haven’t felt this good since the accident. I’m a definite glass is half full kind of person, so being able to get moving and stay active this was has been a tremendous help to me. Going for a quick ride with my handcycle, even to the store or to the neighbor’s is a nice way of giving me back my freedom.

The handcycle by Dragonfly is easy enough to attach and is made of durable lightweight allot rims and the 8 speeds gives me plenty of versatility, for a casual ride to something to get my heartbeat up and burn some energy, the versatility of this handcycle works for a range of people, from kids to adults, this is easily able to work for everyone. I even brought my handcycle in to the therapy center I volunteer at and had some of the residents there give this hand bike a try. A couple of the guys just loved it – said it made them feel like a kid again, that moment when the wind hits your face as you feel the pavement beneath you is incredible.
